Durango, COI teach General Chemistry I, General Chemistry II, Inorganic Chemistry, and Advanced Inorganic Chemistry in a traditional classroom setting. I now see a more bimodal grade distribution; a lot of the C students have moved up to B's.
I was very skeptical of using an online homework system, however, in the end the students are the ones who won me over. With over 100 course reviews where the students were given a simple choice between 'no homework', 'paper homework' and 'online homework' over 90% chose 'online homework'. The students love the instant feedback and the opportunity to get hints when they get stuck. Although this shouldn't take the place of traditional problem solving, the students see this as a valuable tool that allows them to eventually be more independent when working traditional problems from the text.
